Image Guided Orthopedic Surgery Using Osteotome with 3D Localizer
نویسندگان
چکیده
An image guidance system for computer assisted orthopedic surgery is described. 3D localizers are attached to standard hand-held surgical tools such as osteotomes in order to precisely estimate the position and pose of the tools in real time. 3D localizers are widely used for the navigation of neurosurgery. In orthopedic surgery such as acetabular osteotomy, however, the position and pose information of the tools can be used for not only navigation but also intraoperative updating of preoperative geometric models. We reconstruct the cutting shapes of bones based on the trajectories of an osteotome, and estimate the intraoperative movements of the bone pieces separated by osteotomy based on the registration of speci ed points on their surface before and after surgery. Therefore, surgeons can monitor how the surgery is going on in real time. Preliminary experimental results are shown by simulated surgery using a phantom object.

Image-guided surgery potentially enhances intraoperative safety and outcomes in a variety of craniomaxillofacial procedures. We explore the efficiency of one intraoperative navigation system in a single complex craniofacial case, review the initial and recurring costs, and estimate the added cost (e.g., additional setup time, registration). We discuss the potential challenges and benefits of ut...

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...
